The dehumidifier I had purchased from Sears lasted 35 years. When I had to replace it, I purchased the Lg. The Lg lasted 5 months. Then It had Ch 01 code. The code is not mentioned in their manual. I checked on line, and many have had the same problem with no resolution. When I called LG (after being on hold for 40 MINUTES), I was told that they could not answer any questions because I had purchased this from an unauthorized dealer. When I called two different and most reputable appliance repair dealers, they told me that they absolutely do not do business with LG. They independently stated that LG is most uncooperative and impossible to deal with.
After my experience with them, I wholeheartedly agree.

After much research on the internet and consumer reports, I purchased this dehumidifier. I was going to buy it from Amazon, but then found it about $25 less at my local Ace Hardware store. I was also able to buy an extended warranty (just in case). I bought it in March 2009 for my 600 or 700 square feet basement that is dry, except for a little bit of mildew issues we found. I have ran this dehumidifier for 24 hours a day for over a year now with no problems. It has never gotten to 35% humidity, but always stays at 40%. The only times it goes above 40 is when I have the dryer running or our back door open to the outside. At first, we emptied the bucket once every couple days. Now we have the dehumidifier sitting on a counter height table with a hose running down to a floor drain. It isn’t very pretty, but it works. Personally I’ve never had any problems and would highly recommend this one.

I have had this unit for 7 months. I take care of the unit and only have it when the humidity in the basement is high. I clean the filter etc. This thing is very very noisy now. It was not this noisy when we first got it. We have the unit in out basement and its so noisy we hear it upstairs.

We purchased an LG Dehumidifier in 2005 and it ran fine until May 2009 when it quit. We run the dehumidifier for 5-6 months a year so usage was 15-18 months. I went to LG on the internet and found they had a 5 year guarantee so called the company. They were extremely helpful and friendly. There were no repair places in our area so LG had me purchase a new unit from Home Depot. We got the new unit which ran well May, June, July, August & September of 2009 and again in May and June of 2010. Then it quit! I called LG the first week of July and they gave me names for repair places in Illinois (I live in Wisconsin, close to Illinois). I immediately called the names LG gave me (as well as Angie’s List) and found the places had very poor ratings. I reported this to LG and was told they would call me back in 7 days with their decision on what to do.
I was concerned about LG breaking down and needed a dehumidifier so went to Consumer reports. They recommended a Danby brand which I ordered. And I kept waiting for LG to call. On September 14 I called LG (this is a long 7 days) and was told they had tried to contact me several times but our phone service had been down. On checking I found this not to be true and called LG yet one more time. This time I spoke to a supervisor, told him the situation, and askde if they were going to stand behind the unit. I was told the only thing they could do was send out a refurbished unit. If the first 2 new dehumidifiers didn’t last for more than a couple of years why would we want a refurbished unit. The company and their service has gotten bad in the past year and a half and I understand this becoming quite a problem because the original guarantees were so good. Maybe the problem is they can’t make a good one and they decided not to pay the price for the bad ones.
THIS COMPANY IS NOT ONE I WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH AGAIN, FOR ANY APPLIANCE. SO, BUYER BEWARE!
Disgusted in Wisconsiin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of these LG dehumidifiers came with the new house I bought last year. It continued working for a couple of months, then became very noisy. Not that it was exactly quiet before. Then the compressor would no longer shut off when the desired humidity level was reached. Only the fan would shut off, with the compressor needlessy humming away. It also looks very cheaply made. I won’t waste time getting it fixed. Nor will I ever buy a product by LG.
