I’ve been using this dehumidifier for about 2 weeks now. I guess it is a brand new model for this year and that is why I am the first review. I figured that last years model had good reviews so this years model can’t be too bad. Plus I’ve had great luck with our 16 year old Frigidaire refrigerator so they must know compressors well.
Unit was boxed very well and packaged acceptally from Amazon. You cut the plastic straps off and lift off the box exterior from the base. You can then pick up the unit from the handle on top. It is a plastic handle but doesn’t feel fragile when you lift it. It is pretty heavy, but wasn’t a problem for me to carry downstairs to my garage.
Setup was easy if I remember correctly. Just pull off some tape in a couple of places and plug in the cord. I had it run on continuous for several days but have now dropped it down to keeping it at 35 or 40 percent. It has digital pushbutton controls which I haven’t really explored too much. There is a 2 digit numeric display which I think shows the set value and after a moment the current humidity that it is seeing. I’d have to check the manual on that for sure though. That is the way it acted.
I current have it in a garage that is not very warm. It has been into the upper 30′s and 40′s there the past couple of weeks. I needed this dehumidifier out there to keep a bunch of woodworking tools from rusting. I drive the car into the garage and all of the snow drips off of it and onto the concrete. I was worried about the humidity level in there even in the winter. The equipment I have out there is worth too much to have it rust!
It is really sucking the moisture out of the air though. After about 5 days of running, I had a full bucket. It holds a lot of water. The bucket is easy to remove from the unit. It has a handle to carry it with. There isn’t really a good spout on the bucket to pour it out of though – at least I haven’t found a corner that works well yet. I poured the water down the floor drain and it kind of splashes a bit.
There is a way to hook a threaded garden hose up to the unit so you can just dump the water into a floor drain or wherever.
That is probably my biggest gripe is that they should of included a small 2-4 foot hose for that already. I don’t want to go buy some 25 foot garden hose and cut it off to what I need. I’m going to see if I can buy a threaded end and basically make my own out of some tubing or something. I don’t want to have to dump the bucket every few days and since I have a floor drain right there, that is the way I would operate it. Of course if you are using this in your house without access to an easy drain, you’ll have to remove the bucket and maybe dump it in a bathtub or something.
I would imagine that as soon as the humidity gets here this summer, this unit will really be working hard. Of course opening the garage doors a couple times of day will really let the humidity back in but it will just have to pull it back out.
One more thing – I could NOT find this specific unit listed on any Frigidaire websites which kind of worried me that it is some off-model unit or something. I think Amazon just probably has access to selling it and have it listed before Frigidaire actually has it listed up on their website.

I purchased this item to go with a Frigidaire dehumidifier model FDF70S1, which I purchased last year from amazon.com. Upon receiving and using the FAD704TDD, which I believed to be an exact replacement to the FDF70S1 model (due to appearance and 70-pint per day rating), it is clear that these are two totally different machines.
I have tried placing both dehumidifiers in different locations in my basement, which recently sustained water intrusion/damage and has plenty of moisture in its air (the lowest level the humidity has been is 45% according to the humidistat on each dehumidifier). The same results happen each and every time: the FAD704TDD model fills up the water bucket at only half of the rate that the FDF70S1 model does. I empty the buckets between 2 to 4 times per day, as I do not like the dehumidifiers to completely fill up their buckets with water and automatically shut off – I like to make sure my dehumidifiers constantly run and pull moisture out of the air.
I checked the manufacturer’s label on the back of each dehumidifier, and although both dehumidifiers are Energy Star rated, the newer FAD704TDD model is rated at higher amperage (7.5 amps) and cfm (277 on high, 218 on low) than the older FDF70S1 model is (6.5 amps and 175cfm high/146cfm low). You would think that this would mean that the FAD704TDD model would be able to pull much more moisture out of the air. However, in my experience, this is not the case. In fact, the exact opposite is true – the previous older and “weaker” FDF70S1 takes more moisture out of the air AND is more energy efficient than the FAD704TDD model. In fact, the fan on the FDF70S1 model (to me) clearly moves/blows more air (cfm) than the FAD704TDD model, which is probably what partially enables the FDF70S1 to remove more moisture from the air.
This is not amazon.com’s fault. Frigidaire should have never discontinued the FDF70S1 model, that’s all. And it is not that the FAD704TDD model is bad, because it is not – it is just average at best, and is a disappointment compared to the previous (now discontinued) FDF70S1 Frigidaire model I have.

This is a big heavy unit so be aware of that if you will be moving it around a lot. It rolls great on most floors though including concrete, berber carpeting and wood floors without leaving scratches. The carry handle works great and retracts out of sight when not in use. This is probably the best looking dehumidifier I have ever seen and everyone who sees it mentions the looks of the thing before they even know what it is. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and collects water from the air – nice and clean. It is extremly loud on high fan setting so not a great bedroom unit, but it should be fine elsewhere.
It is a bit hard to empty, the “bucket” is actually the front panel (where you see that vertical line near the bottom). That is a water level indicator and when this thing is full it shuts off and a red light indicates its time to empty the water. The bucket does not come out of the machine very easily – it kind of sticks a bit and then gives all of a sudden. Pouring the water out of it is a tad tricky as the entire top is covered in clear plastic with these odd corner openings and the water just kind of gushes out when you tilt it. There is a door like rocker panel that I think was designed to be the exit port, but it does not work all that great.
You do have to leave it upright for an hour before running it for the first time and if it was delivered in a cold region – it needs to reach room temperature or it will not work properly. The digital controls are excellent and the power cord is a decent length, the designers made an attempt at storing the cord on the unit when not in use which works for the most part. Overall, I highly recommend this model even given the slight annoyances at emptying the bucket as it is a great value for a great appliance.

Installed quickly in our crawl space. I connected the drain hose to an existing PVC drain line and the unit has dropped our humidity from 80 to 45/50 in a week in a roughly 1500 square foot area. I would rate it @ 5 stars but haven’t ran the unit for long enough to gauge its long term reliability. Thus far it has run more or less continuously with no trouble although think I did see the “change filter” indication a bit earlier than the product specs indicated I would.
